resources. Typically, they describe, point to, or otherwise complement the
information content of the data to which they are related.
Metadata provide concise aid in locating desired information on a variety of topics, and help make such information easily accessible. Metadata may describe a range of information resources such as digital data images, databases, and printed materials su
ch as books, memos, or maps.
